              Collection of fieldnotes compiled by Dr. Marion Oettinger while conducting anthropological fieldwork in Mexico, primarily in the 1970s. Oettinger's research focused on lienzos. A lienzo, from the Spanish word for "canvas," is a sheet of cloth painted with indigenous Mesoamerican pictorial writing. This collection includes fieldnotes on nine lienzos: the Lienzos of Chalchihuapan, Malinaltepec, Petlacala, San Gabriel Etla, San Juan Cuautla, Santiago Atitlan, Santo Domingo Barrio Alto, Xochiaca, and Xoxocatlan. The fieldnotes include photographs, slides, negatives, and transparencies; photocopies from printed works and government documents; typed and handwritten notes; manuscript drafts; maps; and correspondence.

              Life of Jesse Sumpter manuscript

              Typescript manuscript of Jesse Sumpter's memoir, as dictated to Harry Warren. The memoir describes Sumpter's experiences in the Mexican War, and as one of the first settlers of Eagle Pass, Texas. Warren was an amateur historian, and deposited copies of the manuscript at several libraries, including the University of Texas in Austin. The memoir was edited and annotated by Ben E. Pingenot for the Encino Press in 1969, and published under the title "Paso Del Aguila: a Chronicle of Frontier Days on the Texas Border."

              Twelve individual leaves removed by Mark A. Slotkin from various printed and manuscript texts. Each leaf is foldered with a sheet of paper that includes a facsimile of the title page of the work from which the leaf was removed.

              Victor Alessandro Papers

              The collection contains the papers of Victor Alessandro, conductor of the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, including documents related to musical performances, records from the library of the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, music-related ephemera, clippings related to the San Antonio Symphony, and scores and sheet music with significant annotation by Alessandro. Series 1 contains documents related to musical performances, including notes, correspondence, photographs, blueprints, clippings, and sheet music. Series 2 contains records from the San Antonio Symphony's library, including inventories and annual reports from the librarian. Series 3 contains clippings and ephemera related to the Symphony. Series 4 consists of scores and sheet music with significant annotation by Alessandro.

              Malcolm Lowry Collection

              The Malcolm Lowry Collection contains all books by Lowry in all their hardcover and paperback editions available as of 1983. Nearly all Lowry contributions to both books and periodicals are included as well. Numerous translations of the works into other languages are part of the collection. Books about Lowry, books in which he is mentioned, and other books relating to him, notably those of Conrad Aiken, are included. This finding aid describes the non-book materials in the collection that are not listed in the library catalog.

              Collection contains drafts of poetry and plays written by David Matias, an alumnus of Trinity University who died of AIDS at an early age. Much of his work deals with issues of identity, coming out, and his illness.               Paul Baker Papers

              The Paul Baker Papers consist of correspondence, photographs, administrative records, scripts, playbills, blueprints for theatre construction, periodical clippings and scrapbooks spanning the years 1925-1976 with the bulk of the material concerning the mid-century. The material from the latter years relates to Baker’s tenure at Trinity University, but the majority of the collection is from his years with Baylor University and his work with the Dallas Theatre Center. The collection also contains a small series of Kitty Baker’s correspondence and personal papers.

              The personal papers of Dr. Franklin Lubbock (Char) Miller IV document his tenure at Trinity University (1981-2009), academic research, publications and personal life. The material dates largely from 1930-2009, predominately focused on Dr. Miller’s time at Trinity. Any material prior to 1930 is related to Dr. Miller’s research materials. The collection includes the personal papers of Dr. Miller’s father, Frank L. Miller III; Dr. Miller’s personal correspondence commencing in the 1950s; Miller family genealogical research; copies of the articles, essays and reviews written by Dr. Miller; manuscripts and publications to which Dr. Miller contributed; conferences he attended and his teaching materials; as well as miscellaneous media related to all of the above subjects.

              This collection consists of two journals belonging to Mary Catherine Bradley Gillespie. These journals primarily contain poetry written between 1853 and 1889; other entries include notes about sermons, Sunday School lessons, family members, and music. The collection also includes a handwritten transcription by Gillespie's grandson, William Bulford Adamson, and a printed copy of the hardcover book issued by the Trinity University Alumni Association in 1972.

              The Logan Pearsall Smith Papers consist primarily of Smith's correspondence, manuscripts, and research notes. Smith corresponded with notable scholars and socialites of his era. Correspondence in this collection is arranged in three series: Series 1 contains correspondence from Smith, Series 2 contains correspondence received by Smith, and Series 3 contains correspondence between other individuals, related to Smith or his estate. Series 4 contains manuscripts and notes composed by Smith, including draft essays, word lists, notes on other authors, and draft anthologies. For this series, each folder level record in the finding aid includes a description of the manuscript material. Finally, the collection includes one folder of newspaper clippings and one folder of business cards.
